Hubballi: Good news for the people of Hubballi! The city’s century-old Chitaguppi Hospital is all set to start its own blood bank, in collaboration with the Lions Club. The initiative is aimed at tackling the recurring problem of blood shortage during emergencies — a situation that often leaves patients and their families in distress.
Officials said the new facility will help ensure that no one in Hubballi has to run from hospital to hospital searching for blood in critical situations. “Even a single drop of blood can save a life. This blood bank will be a lifeline for many,” one hospital staff member shared.
The hospital has already completed the setup process, and the blood bank is expected to begin operations very soon.
Chitaguppi Hospital Upgraded to 100-Bed Modern Facility
Along with the new blood bank, Chitaguppi Hospital has recently undergone a major transformation. Under the Smart City Mission, it has been redeveloped into a 100-bed multi-speciality hospital equipped with modern amenities, improved hygiene, and better infrastructure.
Started as a small private dispensary in 1894 by Sri Rao Bahadur Shrinivas Chitaguppi, the hospital became public in 1936 and has remained a trusted name in Hubballi’s healthcare landscape ever since.
Earlier, it had just 30 beds — expanded to 60 in 2013 — and now, to 100 beds with this redevelopment. The hospital handles 300–400 OPD patients daily and assists around 100 pregnant women every day.
Officials said the upgraded facility will help reduce the patient load on other city hospitals and make quality treatment more accessible to people in and around Hubballi.
